A few years ago I came across a phrase that charged my heart with courage and commissioned me to connect with fathers, brothers and sisters who share a similar dream to take ground for the Kingdom of Jesus. The phrase was this: “Ride to the sound of the guns.” It became a banner call for me. It’s a call to courage. It’s a call to ride and connect with others in battle. I believe that Jesus is preparing a people who boldly bring light into the darkest places and will not shrink back from the War of the Lamb. These riders are mobile and adaptable. They form alliances with others of similar vision for revival, awakening, and reformation.
Every spiritual father I’ve connected with has always happened under the banner of zeal. Like the Jehu and Jonadab alliance, it was a “Come and see my zeal for the Lord” moment. It’s a powerful thing when alliances are formed because of shared zeal. Synergy takes place. Power is multiplied. I am seeing these alliances take place everywhere. Brothers and sisters are connecting because they both share an intense desire to see the Kingdom of Jesus come. Fathers and Sons are jumping in the chariot together, riding under the banner of zeal, and restoring pure worship of Jesus.
What is drawing them together is the jealous nature of God. They sense the zeal of Yahweh for themselves and for His inheritance in the earth. The intense desire of Yahweh could be called His dream. Fathers and Sons are rallying around the dreams of Yahweh that have been sown into their hearts and they are forming alliances to see them fulfilled. Churches are connecting under the banner of zeal. Regions are connecting around similar dreams and intense desires. Justice movements are yoking arms because they share an intense dream to see things set right. I believe that many connections are taking place under the banner of zeal right now.
Dominion and Devotion Riding Together: The Jehu and Jonadab Alliance to Rid Israel of Baal Worship And To Restore Pure Worship
Some cannot run with others simply because they cannot say, “Come and see my zeal for the Lord.” I connect under the banner of zeal. I don’t want to connect because we share the same weakness and “keep it real.” I want to exchange strengths and cover weakness. Jehu and Jonadab formed an alliance under the banner of zeal for the Lord. It was a picture of Dominion and Devotion riding together. The result was pure worship in Israel.
It was the circuit-riding king named Jehu who killed Jezebel as he trampled her with his horse (2 Kings 9:30-37). Jehu freshly anointed King by Elisha began to ride and remove ungodly leaders in positions of authority. As a King, Jehu rode out to dethrone Jezebel and establish dominion. He then set his eyes upon the temple of Baal and rode out to rid the land of Baal worship. But before Jehu removed false worship he formed a much-needed alliance with a Charioteer and founder of the Rechabite discipline named Jonadab (2 Kings 10:15, 23; Jeremiah 35). When Jehu met Jonadab he greeted him and said, “Is your heart right, as my heart is toward your heart?” And Jehonadab answered, “It is.” Jehu said, “If it is, give me your hand.” So he gave him his hand, and he took him up to him into the chariot. 16 Then he said, “Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord.” (2 Kings 10).
When I think of the Jehu and Jonadab alliance, I see a picture of dominion and devotion riding together to restore pure worship. Jehu was a King. Jonadab was a man of devotion, faithful to Yahweh, opposing Baalism, and he is the father of the Rechabite family.
The reason why Jonadab is a picture of devotion is because of the family that he raised: The Rechabites. Rechabite literally means “rider, charioteer” from the root word “to mount and ride.” The Lord so honors the obedience of the Rechabites to their father Jonadab’s commands, that He promises that they will have a perpetual witness of pure worship before Him forever (Jer. 35:19). That’s a family of devotion.
When dominion (authority) and devotion (love) ride together in the same chariot we rid the land of ungodly leadership and we establish pure worship. Dominion and Devotion ride under the banner of shared zeal for the Lord. It’s happening. Fathers who’ve labored for the Kingdom to come through Dominion authority are jumping in the chariot with Sons of devotion to Yahweh. Under the Banner of Zeal, Ecclesia has invited Devotion into its chariot. Kingly is aligning with Contemplative. It’s Peter thundering out of the Upper Room solemn assembly and John the Beloved lingering at the cross. It’s a shout with tears. It’s loyal love. I think its time for some Jehu Ridin’. It starts under the Banner of Zeal for the Lord.
